The timestamp
The first 42 bits encode milliseconds since Discord’s January 1, 2015 epoch. That is why an ID can reveal when its object was created without an API request.
Paste a Discord channel ID to decode when the channel was created and how old it is today.
This channel age uses Discord’s Snowflake format. The decoded timestamp is the creation time for the object represented by the ID; the remaining fields explain how Discord made that ID unique.

Worker ID, process ID, and increment keep IDs unique when Discord generates many objects at once. They identify the generation slot, not a person, device, or location.
Names, topics, colors, and avatars can change. The Snowflake remains the same, making it the reliable reference for a Discord object over time.
